How does valve work?

Butterfly valves operate on a simple yet efficient principle centered around a rotating disc, which controls the flow of media through a pipeline.
At the core of the valve is a circular disc (resembling a butterfly's wing) mounted on a central shaft. When the valve is fully
open, the disc rotates to align parallel with the pipeline's inner wall. This position creates minimal obstruction, allowing media (such as water, gas, or chemicals) to flow through the valve smoothly with low pressure loss.
To close the valve, the shaft drives the disc to rotate 90 degrees (or a partial angle for throttling). As the disc turns, it
gradually blocks the pipeline's inner cross-section. When fully closed, the disc presses tightly against the valve seat (equipped with a seal like EPDM or PTFE), forming a tight seal to stop media flow and prevent leakage.
The rotation of the shaft is controlled by a drive mechanism. Manual drives (e.g., handwheels or levers) rely on manual force for operation, while automated drives (electric motors or pneumatic cylinders) enable remote, precise control—ideal for industrial automation systems. This simple rotational movement ensures quick response times, making butterfly valves suitable for both on/off service and throttling applications across various industries.
