An ultra-low temperature ball valve operates via a cryogenically optimized rotary mechanism, engineered to regulate cryogenic fluids (e.g., LNG, liquid nitrogen) reliably at temperatures as low as -269°C. Its core components include a high-strength ball (floating or trunnion-mounted), cryo-resistant seals (PTFE composites or metal), a reinforced stem, and an anti-icing actuation system—all housed in a stainless steel or nickel alloy body to avoid embrittlement.

During forward flow control, the valve's actuator (manual, pneumatic, or electric) drives a 90° rotation of the stem and attached ball. When the ball's precision-machined bore aligns with the pipeline axis, cryogenic fluid flows through unobstructed. The full-port bore design minimizes pressure drop, critical for maintaining efficiency in cryogenic transfer systems. 

To shut off flow, the actuator rotates the ball 90°, positioning its solid spherical surface against the low-temperature seals.These seals retain elasticity even in extreme cold, forming a bubble-tight barrier that prevents leakage of volatile cryogens. A key anti-icing feature—extended stem or heating elements—blocks external moisture from freezing on the stem, avoiding jamming that could disrupt operation.
