How does valve work?

Industrial ball valves operate on a simple yet reliable quarter-turn mechanism, designed to control the flow of fluids (such as steam, water, fuel gas) in boiler systems and industrial pipelines. At the core of the valve is a hollow, spherical ball with a through hole (bore) that aligns with the pipeline when open.

When the handle or actuator is rotated 90 degrees clockwise, the ball rotates to position its bore perpendicular to the pipeline, blocking the fluid path and shutting off flow completely. Conversely, rotating the handle 90 degrees counterclockwise aligns the ball's bore with the pipeline, allowing unobstructed fluid circulation.

The valve's sealing performance is ensured by two seats (usually made of resilient or metal materials) that press tightly against the ball's surface. As the ball rotates, the seats maintain a tight seal to prevent leakage, even under high pressure or high temperature conditions common in boiler applications.
This straightforward design enables fast on-off control, minimal flow resistance, and long-term reliability, making ball valves ideal for boiler fuel delivery, feed water systems, and auxiliary pipelines where quick, leak-proof operation is critical.
