How does valve work?
A globe valve operates through a linear motion mechanism to control fluid flow in pipelines, featuring a disc (closing element) that moves vertically against a stationary seat within the valve body.
When opening the valve, the actuator—whether a manual handwheel, electric motor, or pneumatic cylinder—rotates to lift the stem and attached disc away from the seat. This creates a gap between the disc and seat, allowing media such as liquids, gases, or steam to flow through the valve body. The flow rate can be precisely adjusted by varying the height of the disc: a small gap restricts flow for throttling purposes, while a full lift enables maximum flow capacity.
To close the valve, the actuator drives the stem and disc downward, pressing the disc tightly against the seat. The precision-machined sealing surfaces of the disc and seat form a tight seal, preventing media leakage and isolating the pipeline section.
